So, Russian internet regulator roskomnadzor blocked iMGSRC.RU in Russia on 08.07.2021
Well, this was inevitable.
A very short intro on how sites like iMGSRC.RU work. On a page you have several previews of pictures and one “focused” is displayed full size. To “focus” the picture you have to click the preview to open a new URL. Important things here is that 1) URL changes, so you can link to a specific full sized picture and 2) there is only one big picture on the page.
Now. During last year we received several complaints about “web-sites containing the information prohibited for public distribution in the Russian Federation” from roskomnadzor (RKN) about pages on iMGSRC.RU, that contain, according to them, “pornographic pictures of minors depicted in a vulgar-naturalistic form, the real sexually explicit actions of children”. Well, we have zero tolerance for that and always check these complaints thoroughly. However we stumbled upon the fact that pictures on some of those reported pages were of clothed children, maybe a copy from some IG of FB profile, but this is not what RKN complains about. So we asked our fellow experts to verify if these pictures were legal. “Undoubtedly” was their reply. So we went back to RKN and asked them if the picture from the page they reported earlier was legal. And you won’t believe what their reply was. The picture was legal.
So, the picture itself is legal and the container page is not. How come? Any ideas?
By now iMGSRC.RU is blocked in Russia.
